For more than 20 years, the Hadhad family shipped their homemade chocolates from their home in Syria to countries all over the Middle East, including Yemen, Jordan, and Lebanon. When missiles struck the factory it was destroyed, along with much of the rest of their city of Damascus. The Hadhad family lived in a refugee camp for three years, and eventually came to Canada and became citizens. They settled in Antigonish,
Nova Scotia, and in 2016 rebuilt their company under the name Peace by Chocolate. Their fine chocolates combine some of the flavours of the Middle East with local fresh ingredients.
