The artwork on this delicately decorated vessel depicts the lead character in the Italian opera, La Flora.
The opera, first performed in the early 1600s, sees the wind god Zephyrus marry a field nymph Chloris, which transforms her into the goddess of springtime and flowers: Flora.
The artist Ron Tanovitz has a deep appreciation for ancient fables and stories from classical theatre and opera and for their female lead characters of diverse cultures. Tanovitz has received awards for his artistic accomplishments as an art director, graphic designer and illustrator.
